Ahmed Aboutaleb bid farewell this month as mayor of Rotterdam, the world-renowned port city in the Netherlands. In 2021, he was named the best mayor in the world. Aboutaleb came from afar. Literally. A few years ago, I interviewed him about growing up in Morocco, in poverty, and about the fact that he was reprimanded by his GP in Rotterdam. He was told he needed to live much healthier.
